once and future things

Apologies for failing to follow up sooner on my swag giveaway during the YAmazing Race at the beginning of this month. I was distracted with writing other blog posts, like Alternate Wednesday (new post next week!), trying to make progress in my ever growing to-do list, and adopting a wonderful new dog. :)

In any case, I did tally up all the entries and run them through random.org to randomly select a winner: Marie-Michel Pagé! Congratulations to Marie-Michel–your prize is in the mail!–and thank you all for participating.

Good news if you’d like another shot at winning fabulous prizes: Tomorrow the Winter 2012 YA Scavenger Hunt will begin at noon Pacific time and run for the next three days, offering the opportunity for you to win a massive number of free books, including a signed copy of Quantum Coin. I’ll be hosting another small giveaway of my own here on my blog, so you’ll have an extra chance to win. So stop by tomorrow at 3:00pm (EST)  to find out all about it!

The YAmazing Race with MGnificent Prizes, Part III

[ETA 10/29/12: The race is now over! Thanks to all who participated! My giveaway, however, will continue until next week, so keep those comments coming.]

The final installment of a trilogy can be challenging because there are so many expectations, but I can say with some certainty that the third YAmazing Race with MGnificent Prizes is going to be the best one yet. Most of the Apocalypsies are sprinting toward the finish line; our debut year is nearly over, but some of us already have new books coming out in 2012! So we have even more authors participating this time around, and you can win lots of great stuff, including books, advance copies, and swag. Plus, this race is kind of Halloweeny!

If you’re here at my stop on the blog hop, you probably know what it’s all about already. But if you’re lost or have no idea what I’m going on about, please visit the Apocalypsies website to read the complete rules and get started. Please note that the contest does not begin until Monday, October 22 at 12:00 p.m. EST.

Ephraim thought his universe-hopping days were over. He’s done wishing for magic solutions to his problems; his quantum coin has been powerless for almost a year, and he’s settled into a normal life with his girlfriend, Jena. But then an old friend crashes their senior prom: Jena’s identical twin from a parallel world, Zoe.

Zoe’s timing couldn’t be worse. It turns out that Ephraim’s problems have just begun, and they’re much more complicated than his love life: The multiverse is at stake—and it might just be Ephraim’s fault.

Ephraim, Jena, and Zoe embark on a mission across multiple worlds to learn what’s going wrong and how to stop it. They will have to draw on every resource available and trust in alternate versions of themselves and their friends, before it’s too late for all of them.

If Ephraim and his companions can put their many differences aside and learn to work together, they might have a chance to save the multiverse. But ultimately, the solution may depend on how much they’re willing to sacrifice for the sake of humanity…and each other.

In addition to the signed copy of Quantum Coin I’m offering in the Race, I’ll give away a special prize pack that includes signed bookmarks for Fair Coin and Quantum Coin, Fair Coin postcards, a signed bookplate for Fair Coin, one of my last Fair Coin coin cases, Quantum Coin barcode stickers, and a bag of chocolate state quarters,  to one lucky winner on my own blog.

All you have to do to enter for a chance to win is leave a comment in this post answering this question: How would your life be different in a parallel universe?

You can also get up to 5 additional entries by completing one or all of the following:

  1. Like my Facebook page at http://facebook.com/flipthecoin or, if you don’t do Facebook, link to this contest on your blog. (+1 entry)
  2. Follow me on Twitter and tweet about this contest. Be sure to mention me (@ecmyers) and include the hashtag #quantumcoin. (+1 entry)
  3. Add Quantum Coin on Goodreads. (+2 entries)
  4. Like Quantum Coin at Amazon.com. (+1 entry)

Make sure you tell me which of the above you do for extra points in your comment so I can tally up your entries correctly! And don’t worry, if you already follow me, you still get credit for it. I’ll use some randomizer-thingey to select the winners.

My blog contest will be open until Monday, November 5 at 12:00 p.m. EST.

When you’re ready to move on, click here to visit the next universe blog in the race!

Thanks for coming by, and good luck!

ETA: This giveaway on my blog is open to international entries.

Since a lot of readers have told me they like Nathan Prime, but didn’t see enough of him in Fair Coin, I decided to give him the spotlight in my contribution to Literary Escapism’s “School’s In” series this month. Consider this an appetizer for Quantum Coin in October, with cameos by all the major players: Ephraim, Jena, Mary, and Shelley. Well, okay, almost all the major players. Sorry, Zoe.

So pop over to Literary Escapism to read a brief transcript of Nathan’s video blog, and enter a giveaway for a free copy of my books.

For the couple of people who told me they don’t like Nathan… This probably won’t change your mind. But Quantum Coin might!

coming to a universe near you

Pop quiz time! I know you didn’t study, but don’t worry, it’s multiple choice, there’s no wrong answer, and there’s a reward at the end.

What kind of books do you like?
a) Free ones
b) Books defaced by the author with a Sharpie pen
c) Books what have time travel and parallel universes in them
d) Books with a smidge of romance and humor
e) all of the above

Great! If you picked a, b, c, or d, then read on. If you selected e) all of the above, then you should really pay attention, because this is your chance to win the first signed and personalized copies of Quantum Coin.

This is the finished book, not the uncorrected early copy for reviewers, and there have been some slight changes to the text in this “author’s preferred edition,” carefully designed to boost the level of awesome. All you have to do to make this yours is enter the Goodreads giveaway below. The winner will be randomly selected in true quantum fashion. Good luck!

If you’re not sure this is the book for you, check out this fantastic early review of Quantum Coin by Barb Caffrey at Shiny Book Review. She calls it “a novel that needs to be on your bookshelf, just as soon as it comes out in October; it has flair, drama, big ideas, excellent characters, and some believable, low-key romance.”

we have a winner

At last, I’ve managed to select a winner in my giveaway for Hal Johnson’s critically-acclaimed Immortal Lycanthropes. After creating a list of all the entries, I randomized and numbered the list, and then selected a random number at random.org. And the winner is…

Kari will receive a copy of Immortal Lycanthropes signed and illustrated by its, uh, illustrious author, Hal. And seriously, if you haven’t checked out this book yet, what are you waiting for? Cory Doctorow at Boing Boing calls it “a YA novel unlike any other.” And while you could say that about any number of YA books and not mean it as a compliment, he clarifies this with: “Take one part Lemony Snicket, one part Boy’s Life adventure, three measures of Daniel Pinkwater, a dash of Tex Avery mixed with Carlos Castenada, and you’d get something like Immortal Lycanthropes.”

That sounds great to me. My copy arrived last week, and I’m looking forward to diving in as soon as I finish The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls.

Thanks, all who entered the contest and read the interview! I’d like to do more of these soon, so stay tuned to the same immortal-lycanthrope-bat channel.
