altered fluid at world fantasy

This isn’t about mixing drinks in the party rooms at World Fantasy, or what happens after imbibing too much–no, it’s just a quick post to let you know that most of my writing group, Altered Fluid, is in Columbus, OH this weekend for the convention while I stay at home and keep NYC safe. By, uh, writing a lot.

Here’s the schedule of AF readings and panels that I can’t attend, but there’s nothing stopping you from showing support for this talented group of writers. (Check your local listings.) I hear there’s even a game involved, some sort of writers’ Bingo. If you make it to all their events and get a card stamped, they’ll take you out for ice cream or something. I’m a bit hazy on the details because I’m not there, but I’m sure you won’t regret it. Reasonably sure.

Thursday
8:00 Alaya Dawn Johnson
8:30 Rajan Khanna
9:30 Paul M. Berger

Friday
10:30 am K. Tempest Bradford
11:30 am Matthew Kressel

Saturday
11 am Tom Crosshill (Panel)
2:30 Saladin Ahmed
10 pm Mercurio D. Rivera

Have fun, everyone! I’ll be following along on Twitter as best I can, or sulking in the dark corner of a coffee shop.

last day to buy KGB raffle tickets!

Just a quick reminder that today is the last day to purchase raffle tickets to support the Fantastic Fiction reading series at the KGB Bar. There are lots of great prizes; you may have missed some of the last-minute additions so check it out again and spend one dollar or twenty to own some truly unique items. The random drawing for winners is at midnight.

Don’t forget: one of the prizes is a face-to-face critique with my writing group, Altered Fluid, which includes published novelists and short story writers and editors with multiple Hugo and Nebula award nominations. And, uh, me. You can’t afford to pass up an opportunity like this. I’m looking forward to reading your story!

support the KGB

The monthly KGB Fantastic Fiction readings are a staple of the New York City SF scene, which has featured authors such as Joyce Carol Oates, Lucius Shepard, Jeffrey Ford, Scott Westerfeld, Kelly Link, China MiĆ©ville and others. Attendance is free, but running it isn’t–hosts Ellen Datlow and Matt Kressel must buy drinks and dinner for their esteemed guests. Last year they organized a raffle to support the series, and since it was such a success, they’re doing it again: beginning tonight at midnight (EST), in fact.

This year’s raffle offers many and varied prizes, including a keyboard from Neil Gaiman, a wormhole from physicist Michio Kaku, critiques on short story and novel queries, and much more–all generously donated by well-known authors, agents, editors, and artists. (My writing group, Altered Fluid, is offering a short story critique.) Tickets are only $1 and can be purchased at www.kgbfantasticfiction.org from October 11, 2010 through midnight EST on October 25, 2010. Please read the press release and rules here and go here to view the complete list of fantastic prizes and purchase raffle tickets.
